I have the same issue with i3. The problem is probably caused by using
the newest netsurf with old libpng. You need to upgrade libpng with:
s pacman -Sy libpng
Or better yet upgrade whole system.

Once again do you really need nm-applet? If you don't want to do some
complexed tasks with your connection(3G modems, vps) I would
recommend netctl(check arch wiki). netctl is command line application
but it's simple and well documented so I believe you won't have problem
with using it and you can save your RAM and CPU. Alternativly if you
want something with GUI, use wicd it's also much lighter than
NetworkManager.

Did you try to run systemctl start dbus? I've had simillar issue on my
yeelong but I don't remember what have I done to solve it. I would try
to recall it.

I've had the same issue and I've just comented out line 19 in
/etc/pacman.conf and everything was working well.
