I'm a big fan of free software. I've been using Trisquel for several years, but thought I would try out Parabola, as I like the idea of the rolling release package model. Anyway, I recently bought a second-hand Chromebook C201, as I noticed that Parabola now supports it. So far, I have installed Arch on an external micro SD card, and it seems to boot up fine (I am going to migrate it to Parabola soon, but haven't made that step just yet). Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has had any luck installing on the internal eMMC? I haven't tried it myself yet. So far, I haven't been able to get the existing paritions to mount in Arch. If I do 'fdisk -l' on it, it tells me the primary GPT table is corrupt, but the backup is ok. However, if I try to use fdisk to repair the partition table, it gives me an i/o error. Has anyone else come across that? I haven't yet tried to create a new partition table. I'd be interested to follow any developments on using GNU/Linux on this Chromebook. They both: - should allow the user to more easily install what they whish, by deactivating some the security features. - should be FSDG compliant. Paper should also have more support for ARM devices than Libreboot, but last time I checked, x86 support was not yet completed. There is some work in progress in a branch though. I planned to continue that work by adding x86 qemu support, then adding the i945 Thinkpads, and then the GM45 Thinkpads after working to add support for generating the flash descriptor in Coreboot, but I didn't find the time to work on any of that yet. > 2- Disable "memory lock" (most of the chromebook partitions are "read > only") I've no idea what this is. Once the boot software is reflashed, what is the installation procedure? Do you need to flash the distribution kernel as well? Or can it boot directly from an installer and/or the eMMC? If so, how do you handle kernel updates? and do you choose between multiple kernels? I think it was somehow integrated in Libreboot at some point, but the Libreboot project and the upstream version diverged at some point. As Paper doesn't support x86 yet, it also cannot fully replace the former Libreboot build scripts. Denis. -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed...
