Well, they are finally here: https://repomirror.parabola.nu/iso-openrc/ Regarding the issue with MATE of not showing icons in the desktop[0], as a quick fix just do Control+F2 and write `caja --force-desktop` (add this in the wiki please, I have no access any longer for editions, I even tried to register with another email address but nothing) These ISOs were released yesterday, and have linux-libre 4.13.3 installed. For now there's only MATE and the Main ISO, as TalkingParabola was giving me some issues (the espeakup service suddenly stops, yo restart it and then minutes later it crashes), but I'll see that later. I'll work now on getting LXDE ISO with OpenRC, and upgrade the (Systemd) MATE ISO, which is from last year. Anyone with access to edit https://wiki.parabola.nu/Get_Parabola please add this ISOs, I'm also attaching images of Syslinux boot splash image and its MATE desktop screenshot. Hope you like it :) [0] https://labs.parabola.nu/issues/1350 -- ~Megver83 SIP: megver83 at sip.linphone.org XMPP: megver83 at diasp.org Tox: megver83 at toxme.io GPG: 0x227CA7C556B2BA78 GNUSocial: @megver82 at quitter.cl Diaspora*: David P. The installation scripts from the LXDE+OpenRC ISO is not in a production state - I'm working in that while bill-auger does with Calamares - And yes, a "Paraboler" theme for LXDE would be awesome (there is one for MATE that is horrible but you can take it a look if you want). Then we grew pac.git. To group those two together, the 'multimedia/' directory was created. But we don't want to break existing checkouts and links, so symlinks from the original locations to multimedia/ had to be created. The normal solution: have a phasing-out period where we plan to delete one location; (1) we watch the nginx logs for hits to the "bad" location, and get external links updated so that we stop getting hits there, and (2) we make sure that all contributors know one location is going away, and to update their .git/config URLs. The better solution would be to configure our git server in a way that the old https:// URLs redirect ot the new ones, and the old git:// and ssh:// URLs still work. I think all this would take is patching cgit to hide symlink repos in the listing, and to redirect symlink listings to their target; I don't think git-daemon or git-shell need to be modified to make this work. -- Happy hacking, ~ Luke Shumaker From bill-auger at peers.community Fri Oct 13 01:56:06 2017 From: bill-auger at peers.community (bill-auger) Date: Thu, 12 Oct 2017 21:56:06 -0400 Subject: [Dev] feedback for Parabola beta ISOs In-Reply-To: <84190ec3-adfd-3528-663b-90e34b954feb@hyperbola.info> References: <3fd2ffb7-a938-ebde-52c3-3ece1a3293bc@hyperbola.info> <84190ec3-adfd-3528-663b-90e34b954feb@hyperbola.info> Message-ID: El 12/10/17 a las 01:24, Ben Gailly escribi?: > Should I start trying to make a theme and maybe an icon pack for lxde > instead of mate mate and LXDE use the same themes - they are the standard GTK2/GTK3 pairs - i suspect the reason that the parabola theme is broken in the new version of mate is that they switched to GTK3 and perhaps the parabola theme was made only for GTK2 - if that is the case then it will work in LXDE as is there exists themes galore though - so that is not so urgent - the one thing that we do not have any example of is a slideshow for calamares - that is the first task i would take up if i were wearing my designer hat today -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... I've also add new wallpapers (for Systemd and OpenRC, as demanded by Megver83), two banners and a Smartphone wallpaper. They are in the "img+gpl" folder. As these "push, pull, commit" are a new world for me, I really don't want to screw anything. That's why I'm asking if I've to move them in the other folder named "wallpapers" ? And that's also why I didn't do anything on the server (via sftp connection) or via the "git" utility. So if anyone here would like to make a small explanation on what-to-do-without-scratching-everything with the git, or on the srv, it will be appreciated.. Or simply I don't have to do anything since my github repo is supposed to be synced with the parabola artwork git.. Thanks for your patience (as I'm a new to this repo-git world..) And I've simply removed the "Arch Based" "insult" I did (after reading the article you gave me about the "Naming convention" problem). Now I've retrieve some informations for the Slideshow of Calamares. I've noticed 3 differents pictures categories: _1 for the "Welcome" / "Language" message??? ??? src/branding/manjaro-xfce/languages.png _On some version, there is a "Welcome" picture and message and a "Language" picture and message. I don't know which one you've chosen. _5 for the "Installation" process??? For e.g. src/branding/manjaro-xfce/slide1.png to slide5.png I also check the "show.qml" file which presents every slide with a link to the picture and a text for the introduction. https://github.com/calamares/calamares-manjaro/blob/master/src/branding/manjaro/show.qml Now, I can change every pictures with new ones, keeping the same names to fit the "calamares" style. I could also check the texts and adapt for Parabola Gnu/Linux-Libre. But if you already have ideas, I'm up to here :-) The only things I ask is the "style" you would like for these pictures. Flat Design, modern, old, ugly, darker, etc It will help me to fit your expectations.. And I'm also learing how to do a simple "damn not so easy to learn" package with all of these artworks.. Which is another totally new thing. (I've picked up some examples, templates, for "package making"..) I was wondering how much ppl uses them (can we know the downloads?), because for example the Knock patches which are maintained by Emulatorman are giving me some issues, and Emulatorman, although he still maintains those patches at Hyperbola's git, doesn't compile vanilla kernels (LTS only, the knock patches for vanilla are the problem for me). So those patches are kinda abandoned (they are included in PCK, which has stopped me to update it, and I thought on changing the knock patches and kernels with PF). Plus, no one has marked those kernels as outdated, which smells like there is not much interest in them. Besides that, for GRSec we have linux-libre-hardened (which includes some grsecurity code), and some of our users might miss the combination of GRSeC + Knock. For that, I thought on the combination of hardened pacthes + apparmor or tomoyo configuration. My idea is to deprecate some kernels (specifically: linux-libre-xen, linux-libre-nand, linux-libre-knock and linux-libre-audit, supposing that no one or almost nobody uses them) but to add new ones in compensation. These kernels would be: - linux-libre-hardened-apparmor OR linux-libre-hardened-tomoyo - linux-libre-pf - linux-libre-lts-pf *And* replace knock with pf in the PCK patch (I haven't yet tested if the PF patch conflicts rcn-libre or ZEN, I also have to study their differences, both share some features. Looks like pf has ZEN, but I'll see later). I really need the community's opinion, because maintaining kernels is not a light job. I enjoy it, but sometimes it's tedious. An "AUTHOR" file will be added for already existing works to put credits, license and link to thel (the Parabola logo, the gnu and the Parabola logo, etc). So, to resume what I've done : I've added the slides for the future Calamares Installer Slide-show, including the language slide, the logo slide, and 5 other slides (the 5.1 and 5.2 slides are there for you to make a choice. There is a "red" one with flash "100% Libre Software" (thanks to "Ben" for his proposal) and one with transparent words.) I also added in the "source" folder which includes........ the source files :-) And I added to the root repo a "tutorial" folder where I show in the source files how I did the penguin, the laptop and the globe. In the README.md file I've made a little explanation on how I did it. This is made for us to know that these artworks are made from scratch for the Parabola GNU/Linux-Libre project avoiding any license research. :-) The artworks that I didn't made myself from scratch but that I modified, are listed with a link to their licenses in the "AUTHOR(s)" text file in the "calamares_installer_slides" folder. I hope you will enjoy it. -- **Ben "Skwid" Gailly** **www.techtux.be** **GPG:0x95CEE62D** -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... There are some awesome kernels that I'd like to save, like knock[0] (at least its -lts) and apparmor. But some others look kind of useless, with a low quantity of downloads, while we can use the same disk space for better kernels[1] [0] Due to https://www.fsf.org/news/gnu-hackers-unmask-massive-hacienda-surveillance-program-and-design-a-countermeasure [1] https://labs.parabola.nu/issues/1506 -- ~Megver83 SIP: megver83 at sip.linphone.org XMPP: megver83 at diasp.org Tox: megver83 at toxme.io GPG: 0x227CA7C556B2BA78 GNUSocial: @megver82 at quitter.cl Diaspora*: David P. We haven't written it yet! Here's what it looks like in my head RN: - libremakepkg grows a flag to *only* produce a source-package - some new utility takes a list of source-package files and architectures to build them for, and builds packages for them (wrapping libremakepkg?), in the order given, then librestage/librerelease them. - dbscripts is modified such that if it receives a source-package without associated binary packages for each architecture, then ssh's to the build-box and invokes that new utility in the background. - also, autobuilder is modified to use this new program (instead of libremakepkg) as well -- Happy hacking, ~ Luke Shumaker From megver83 at hyperbola.info Mon Oct 23 19:16:34 2017 From: megver83 at hyperbola.info (Megver83) Date: Mon, 23 Oct 2017 16:16:34 -0300 Subject: [Dev] [FYI] Build server hardware is coming In-Reply-To: <87tvypwulw.wl-lukeshu@lukeshu.com> References: <87wp3lx29s.wl-lukeshu@lukeshu.com> <87tvypwulw.wl-lukeshu@lukeshu.com> Message-ID: El 23/10/17 a las 16:07, Luke Shumaker escribi?: > On Mon, 23 Oct 2017 13:28:02 -0400, > Megver83 wrote: >> El 23/10/17 a las 13:22, Luke Shumaker escribi?: >>> Hi all, >>> >>> I've just ordered hardware for a rather beefy build-box (32 cores @ >>> 2.3GHz, 32GB RAM, 1TB HDD). I actually compile a lot of ARM software (kernels mainly, and other [libre] packages) in my Banana Pi, but *a lot*, so I'd love to have and EOMA68. BTW did you got Parabola working on that device? I remember that Andreas was moving some things regarding our ARM port -maybe he needs it more than me?- and the EOMA68 thing, so I'd like to hear his opinion about this, before accepting it. -- ~Megver83 SIP: megver83 at sip.linphone.org XMPP: megver83 at diasp.org Tox: megver83 at toxme.io GPG: 0x227CA7C556B2BA78 GNUSocial: @megver82 at quitter.cl Diaspora*: David P. Firstly, I want to reassure you that I can understand your frustration given the way things went. However, I don't appreciate the language used in your last email towards our fellow hackers. This reflects badly on the community as a whole, and I would like to see discussions on this list remain on a more professional level. Now, that being said, I talked to bill-auger on IRC and he insisted that he does not hold any grudge or ill feelings or any negativity against you or your work. The hackers and the community very much appreciate your work as an artist and your contributions to the project. However, if parabola is operating as a professional free distribution of GNU/Linux, there is a certain set of rules we need to follow *to the letter* if we want to avoid legal trouble. This includes observing the terms dictated by the licenses of third party work we use, and especially give attribution where it is required. As far as I understand (and correct me please if I am wrong) you failed to do so. This was the issue bill-auger was trying to address. I can empathize that these legalese restrictions and the delay that was introduced in the current situation are suboptimal and frustrating, and I can also understand that it might have seemed as if we were trying to antagonize you, but in reality, we are bound by law. However, I feel like these issues should have been better communicated towards you, and I would like to apologize that things have escalated as they did due to that. I agree that adding ourselves to the list of organizations endorsing this open letter likely won't be make a big difference.. Theagain, it can only help/contribute to their efforts. Also, it would provide extra exposure for us, even if small or difficult to measure, but n% of visitors to their site who are curious & check the sponsoring orgs could discover our existence. Last, being listed and linked from their site should contribute to our "page rank" in search engine results. >> otherwise, all the power to this. > +1 to sign! > > > _______________________________________________ > Dev mailing list > Dev at lists.parabola.nu > https://lists.parabola.nu/mailman/listinfo/dev -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Unfortunately, it's an official release board. So yeah, I don't have it and there is no release date. The project page on Crowdsupply says that the cards will be shipped in November 2017, but it seems unlikely. >BTW did you got Parabola working on that device? As I said above, I don't have it. The idea would be to change the shipping address in my Crowdsupply account for the one that you (or somebody else, if you change your mind) will choose. I ordered a card with a preinstalled Debian. But it was also possible to choose Parabola. So I suppose the dev will support it at a minimum. :) Kind regards, sohka On 10/26/2017 06:35 AM, Andreas Grapentin wrote: > On Wed, Oct 25, 2017 at 07:18:54PM -0300, Megver83 wrote: >> I remember that Andreas was moving some things regarding our ARM port >> -maybe he needs it more than me?- and the EOMA68 thing, so I'd like to >> hear his opinion about this, before accepting it. > I am currently building packages on a beaglebone black, and I'm probably > still in the loop for a preview board, so I don't need it that bad. > > To clarify, though: are we talking about an official release board, > which at this ponint don't have a release date, or do you have an > actual physical preview board on your hands?
