Wow, the multiple package manager emulation blew my mind :D Sure Gilgamesh inspires you! Maybe you can help us adding Calamares installer to our lovely Parabola MATE desktop ISO... (blink, blink) :) Thank you all for listening to me. I love Parabola GNU/Linux and I want to see it in the "TOP" of GNU/Linux's distros. The whole repo (https://repo.parabola.nu/?noredirect) is taking 127 GB at this moment, but it could peak to as high as 150 (worst case scenario under our current server partitioning), so provision for some extra space if you plan to include everything in your rsync line. In addition to the main server's rsync socket[1] I'm aware of Yandex tier-1 Parabola mirror also offering rsync[2]. The latter is pretty reliable and probably the closest to your location. I don't have much of an opinion about [1], bar my recollections about other mirror maintainers and sysadmins complaining about bandwidth issues. I wish they weighed in before you decide to sync from [1]. If you don't really care what tier your mirror ends up being in, then go with [2] by all means. I think Yandex could safely host more rsyncers. Also, write back with the following information once/if your mirror is ready, to have it added to pacman-mirrorlist and the website: Location: Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam ? Responsible: some name and email, your GPG fingerprint if available Work hours: Tier (rather, your upstream): Available URLs and protocol information: Any extra notes: [1]: I have a partially-written script that is supposed to set up the gitlab mirror for each of the repos automatically (and also mirrors other places too). I keep saying I'll finish it soon, but... well, life happens. Perhaps we should create a user-area on our servers? using a Virtio disk. Message-ID: <584DA96E.2040205@gmail.com> Hi, I wanted to install parabola with MATE desktop in a virtual machine using virt-manager on Trisquel. I found that using a Virtio emulated disk drive didn't work for parabola install.sh off-hand, because it searches for /dev/sdX only (and not for /dev/vdX). Upon modifying line 11 of install.sh to "aux=$(ls /dev/vd?)", I was able to install parabola successfully in the virtual machine without any issues. https://git.parabola.nu/packages/parabolaiso.git/tree/configs/mate/root-image/root/.scriptsInstallation/language/en/install.sh Perhaps it would be worthwhile in-future, modifying that script to somehow also automatically search for /dev/vdX as well as /dev/sdX so that people wishing to install in a virtual machine, to test parabola MATE, can do so successfully without manual modification? As an eventual contributor (although not very active), I must say that this is indeed an interesting project to work with. However, as you might have guessed, by looking at the past news comming from the Parabola project, one must note that the EOMA68 is a hardware "connectivity" standard (the name between quotes was put there due to my lack of understanding of the real type of standard). So, to put it simple: You might be refering to the Libre Tea Computer Card, one (of various) product that follows the EOMA68, and the only one of these which is seeking the Respects Your Freedom (RYF) certification from the Free Software Foundation (FSF). It's trivial to remove specific files from a diff that way. Attached is a script that will do it. -Brad On Thu, Dec 22, 2016 at 02:37:57AM +0000, Luke wrote: > Hello Brad, > We are still using grsec for our infrastructure at Parabola > GNU/Linux-libre, and it is an essential part of our distribution. > Thank you for continuing to offer the test patches for free. > > However, over the past year(?) or so a non-free firmware blob was added > to grsec. > This causes grsec patch to fail when ran against the linux-libre kernel. > ( http://www.fsfla.org/ikiwiki/selibre/linux-libre/ ) > I have also heard report that it is causing the deblob script in Gentoo > to conflict with hardened-sources and fails to build. > > We have been manually patching grsec and removing the blob for our > distro, but it is a tedious process each time a new release is made. > > I have been looking into a way of automating this so that we always have > the latest grsec patches, and see two possible solutions. > > 1) Place the blob at the beginning of the grsec patch so that it is > always at the same line(s) and we can use sed to remove the blob. e.g. > sed '2,1400d' grsec*.patch > - This solution will work unless the blob grows or becomes smaller. > Currently, it is not a good solution since the blob moves periodically > throughout the file each time there is a new version. > > 2) Provide a version of grsec without the non-free firmware. > (Since the blob is an updated version of BNX2 firmware, maybe getting > upstream kernel.org to update their blob would solve the need for it to > be included in the grsec patch?) > > Any other ideas you could offer are also appreciated. > > > Thanks. > > Sincerely, > Luke > Packager for Parabola GNU/Linux-libre > https://parabola.nu > > -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
