As far I know many (for not say all, but no, not are all are property of Hasbro inc. (arroun 100 ponies are licenced for hasbro [ponysay round 190]).
Hasbro say that any can use they ponies for anything that arenot monetary and not use apple HD videos as full leght, but many ponies are originally from browserponies and destop-ponies (and many of them under probably cc-nc-sa3.0 [non-comercial] licence) probably the ponies indibidually are not uder the licence but other maybe yes

is FS maintain tose ponyes or rembout the 2ove (in a heuristical search a 300 ponies) in the repo???

the ponysay.py and other are WTFPL and they want change for GPL but I talk about the ponies

Example cases when it's needed:

* Alice uploads a new KDE release, after hours of uploading kdeartwork-wallpapers the network breaks, Bob runs librerelease on a single small package, db-update removes kdeartwork-wallpapers, Alice spends hours resending it.
* Alice uploads packages while new ones are building, rsync uploads some found after the signing is done, Bob uploads another package and db-update run by Bob fails due to missing signatures for Alice's packages.

There are more specific bugs in these cases and it's possible for others to be found.  All of them involve different users running librerelease and db-update, so using a different staging directory for each user and making db-update run on only one such staging directory would solve them and doesn't need more complex changes.

what will happen when two concurrent db-update try to write the same
repo.db file, and one doesn't know the other modified it?  you'll have
packages missing from repos but correctly released.

it would be better to make db-update ignore rsync tmp files on cleanup
IMO.

other files?  It won't help in these cases, although I'm not sure now if
they are possible.

so the problem is that alice has to upload 3 big packages, connection is
lost after 1.5 packages being uploaded, bob releases the first one
(db-update ignores the temp file) but alice doesn't notice because the
failed sync doesn't know it has to skip the first (it's not there
anymore so rsync uploads it) and continue from the second.  the result
is alice uploading 3 packages again (if connection isn't lost) and the
first package being released twice, no?

i think it would be simpler to lock the stage area until all uploads are
done.  this doesn't avoid the problem of packages being built by two or
more packagers, which is solved by coordination (!) and librerelease
checking if a package was already released[0].  this would solve Alice
having to reupload a package and Bob missing Alice saying "i'll do
package X".

     code 200 by requesting the headers for the file:

they're just HEAD requests, i don't think it's such an overhead to our
server.  checking if they're already publicly available will avoid you
having to reupload 90 packages, db-update's cleanup ignoring rsync
tmpfiles will solve the other (i thought it was doing this already?)

i can think of at least three more ways of doing it, requiring more
bytes being transmitted.

* librerelease runs -Sy and checks against the local database

* generate an include-list for rsync and do a dry run between
  repo:pool/packages/ and local:staging/ parsing rsync output afterwards

* similarly download the repo index.html (i think extra/index.html can
  be up to 1M)

Ok.  I haven't experienced any problems with cleanup and tmpfiles.

Are the tmpfiles ignored when resending?  It might be significant when
uploading one 100 MiB package.

Other tools do this and it's easy to implement.

librerelease uses --partial, perhaps it would be better to use
--partial-dir=.partial.$USER

we've discussed this.  it would require removing msn and all other
reverse engineered proprietary protocols as well.  also setting up
triggers on browsers.  if the implementation is free software the distro
shouldn't decide what people should do with it.

also it could be argued that it's better to have support for facebook on
locally running free software instead of using the proprietary
javascript on their site.

This would actually make sense. And I'd support it, were we to remove
support for all non-free services. That goes for Skype, Facebook, AOL,
Exchange...

Although some people might argue that the client-side software is still
free, i.e. the laptop would still be running 100% free software.

We have the mozilla-searchplugins without engines like Google by default so
why something like Facebook is supported by our apps?

the difference is that you can add a search engine later, to re add
protocol support on pidgin you have to rebuild libpurple.

1. I'm not very familiar with Facebook, or the various chat programs;
   but AFAIK Pidgin/libpurple's Facebook "support" is just XMPP with a
   default domain of chat.facebook.com or whatever.

hi, isn't it possible to pull all of the openwrt sources/targets while
removing the unfree bits?  owrt provides git mirrors of their svn, at
parabola lukeshu crafted some scripts to pull from arch git repos and
remove stuff selectively, maybe this technique can be helpful to you
too?

at least the ar71xx (all of tplink routers afaik) target uses ath9k :)

Google Corp. is planning to shut the service down beginning with July 1st of 2013. Also I can see no problem in linkage to their aggregating service as far as this is all part of a client / project under FSF approved license. The Parabola Project is not promoting use of non-free web-services by any means.

First off, I've really taken a liking to Chromium. I've used it in the past, and I like the interface and how quick of a browser it is. However, I have heard about license issues in the past, involving unlicensed files in the source code. I have noticed that in the source, LICENSE is the BSD license. Doesn't that mean that any files without a license are under that license? If not, is there a way to remove those files without reducing any significant functionality to the browser? Do these license issues even still exist? I'm guessing so, because chromium-browser still conflicts with the 'your-freedom' package.

I'd really like to be able to use Chromium on a fully free system. I'm sure I'm not the only one, but I don't really know how difficult it would be to make a libre Chromium. I'd like to find out where to start, and hopefully, with the help of the community, bring what I believe is one of the best web browsers to Parabola.

If anybody wants to take a look at the source code, here is one of the latest versions:

New ISOs have been released.
- Use of parabolaiso to create images. Some minor changes including the new Parabola logo come with it.
- Both configurations are available (releng and gnome).
- The gnome configuration is aimed to provide full experience (it contains packages from gnome-extra group regardless of the size of the image for now). The image fits on an FSF Membership Card.
- It is known that there is a problem with rebooting/shutting down inside the GNOME Shell. Probably an empty password for the parabola user prevents authorization from working. You need to either use a key sequence like CTRL+ALT+DELETE or issue a command from the CLI.

Example cases when it's needed:

* Alice uploads a new KDE release, after hours of uploading kdeartwork-wallpapers the network breaks, Bob runs librerelease on a single small package, db-update removes kdeartwork-wallpapers, Alice spends hours resending it.
* Alice uploads packages while new ones are building, rsync uploads some found after the signing is done, Bob uploads another package and db-update run by Bob fails due to missing signatures for Alice's packages.

There are more specific bugs in these cases and it's possible for others to be found.  All of them involve different users running librerelease and db-update, so using a different staging directory for each user and making db-update run on only one such staging directory would solve them and doesn't need more complex changes.

I recently had a problem when I tried to rebuild my chroot to package packages (duh :D) Because some packages specificed on */etc/libretools.d/cleansystem* don't exists on ours repo anymore, so I just deleted initscripts and another two packages.

For example, I failed my previous command for libremkchroot, and I tried it a second time with the correct arguments, but it wanted to overwrite the mounted system, reporting errors.

Also, I didn't understand what was happening and I tried to remove the jail directory, without checking that my system was mounted in that directory!

It would be a good and simple behavour to unmount if reporting error.

 1. I was just trying to collect all of the contributed artwork.
 2. I'm attempting to roll out the upgrade to parabolaweb software and
    logo at the same time. If it doesn't happen tomorrow though, I'll
    go ahead and update the logo without the software.
 3. What about using this in the banner?
    I used yours, but scaled up the text relative to the graphic, so
    that the text would be legible, but the whole thing wouldn't be
    huge.

We should change the slogan of Parabola to scape from the Arch Linux's shadow. This is a "Marketing" issue though. But taking Trisquel as an example, they dont use "A libre version of Ubuntu" as slogan. Why should we do it then?

I did a purple version and place it along with the orange version originally proposed, take in account that such orange is the Archlinux blue inverted.

as soon as people decide what to do so we will have a new face to show :)
