Why should I need a separate partition for the kernels?

Here is the usual scheme:

/dev/sda1 - /boot
/dev/sda2 - swap
/dev/sda3 - /

If you have an encrypted root, GRUB can create a mapping and mount
it. Can PMON handle this?
