[Dev] [lemote] [Fwd: Re: Loongson 3A hardware]

I'm getting a sample unit soon to evaluate soon (just did the wire transfer
yesterday), if that goes well I'll probably start selling the Lemote 8133
Loongson3a based laptop.

If I do sell them, I'll get another unit and put it on iKVM [1] and remote
power cycling control to help GNU/Linux distro porting efforts. If I don't,
I'll do the same with the initial unit.

Unfortunately the new units are too expensive for me to give away gratis to
developers (I'll need to sell them at somewhere around $1200), however I'm
thinking of doing something like selling a developer support model, where
people can choose to spend an extra few hundred dollars in order to support
a pool of money that will trigger a donation to a GNU/Linux distro
developer or other person who is known to have done important work (such as
phcoder for GRUB) with Loongson2f hardware.

It's a little bit hard to decipher the below threads, but I think that
Mr. Zhang offered to donate some hardware to some projects. If that is the
case, I'd be happy to work with FSF et al on what the best use of those
machines would be. In addition to gNewSense, Parabola, the GRUB project and
(probably less interesting to the FSF as it's not on their distro list)
Gentoo could use hardware. I think we are talking somewhere on the order
of 8 people who are active with the older Loongson2f hardware in these
various projects.
