Last GPU from nvidia that can run without binary blob is GTX 750 Ti
this is mid-grade card when they first port it to nouveau it was weaker
than older cards but now it should be improved but it don't know it its
stronger than kepler now.

and FSDG distro 3D acceleration will not work only 2D.

The best GPU vender for GNU systems in Intel but their gpu is weaker
than nvidia and amd but the good news they are planning to release
stronger gpu for both internal and discrete and we hope the driver will
stay libre like now.

latest intel processor come with good iGPU that can run OpenGL 4.6 and
vulkan (which is not in nouveau) and they can almost all modren libre
games and design software like blender.

I checked the parabola website to see if there are manual fixes that I need
to do and I saw that there are a few fixes for different sorts of errors,
but I couldn't recognize my errors, so I'm not sure what I should do. Any

that indicates that you do not have a DNS server configured -
how to configure one, depends on your preference - 
the simplest way is to add one explicitly to /etc/resolv.conf

it could be that you are not connected to the internet - try
this command:

  $ ping -c 1 93.95.226.249 &> /dev/null && echo "connected" || echo "not connected"

if that command gives: "not connected"; check if NetworkManager
is enabled:

  $ rc-status | grep NetworkManager

if that command does not show "[  started  ]"; 
try enabling it, then reboot afterward:

  $ sudo rc-update add NetworkManager default

Yeah I wasn't connected to the internet, sorry. After I connected I still
had to make a manual fix, but I could recognize the error and follow
the instructions from the website and it worked, thanks. I actually still
have a conflict error message that I had before for a long time about some
fonts, I would probably ask about it in the near future. Thanks again.

most cheap webcams will work on libre systems - anytime you
consider "modern" hardware, the chances are lesser, that it will
have a libre driver - my suggestion would be to drop the "modern"
requirement, and buy a bunch of cheap-o $6 cams from some local
dollar store or web shop

there are several online shops, that i know of,  which sell only
libre-friendly hardware - i just checked them all; and none have
webcams - i assume that is because webcams are so cheap and easy
to find

that is only general advice, of course - maybe someone else knows
of some specific examples

the FSD is usually the easiest way to answer that question

if not, then the FSDG would forbid us from helping anyone to
install it

java programs generally do not fit well into distros; so
although it is a popular program, it does not surprise me that it
is not in the repos - if you want to use it, you would either get
the binary from the eclipse website, get the source code from
the eclipse website and compile it, or maybe you could find a
PKGBUILD for it on the AUR

It seems one cannot install Eclipse IDE from official repos even in Arch Linux, because they have moved it to the AUR [1].

Parabola's blacklist.txt [2] doesn't mention it, and I couldn't find any freedom issue logged for this specific set of packages in Parabola issue tracker either. So there appears to be no documented issues from our side.

But, AFAIK, Eclipse has a feature to browse marketplace, and automatic installation of dependency packages for the user projects, where some packages can potentially have freedom issues. I didn't try to build it using the PKGBUILD, so it's not clear if any dependencies are pulled from the network in the process.

Hi,
I have this error message when I type sudo pacman -Syu:

:: xorg-fonts-alias-100dpi and xorg-fonts-alias are in conflict. Remove
xorg-fonts-alias? [y/N]
error: unresolvable package conflicts detected
error: failed to prepare transaction (conflicting dependencies)
:: xorg-fonts-alias-100dpi and xorg-fonts-alias are in conflict

I type yes when I'm asked if it's o.k. to remove  xorg-fonts-alias (I type
enter), but as you can see from the errors afterwards it doesn't work.
So, if you have any suggestions on how to solve this issue I would
appreciate it.

Oh, I thought it was the opposite. That's really embarrassing, thanks for
pointing that out.
After I now pressed y, the updating process could continue and a lot of
software was updated (I had this font conflict for a relatively long time
but didn't bother to solve it).
But the packages couldn't upgrade now. I have these key errors:

As you can see I pressed Y when I was asked to choose Y/n. I don't know if
this is relevant, but when I installed parabola I also had some problems
with corrupted keys, but I followed the installation guide instructions for
what to do in this case, so I think it should be fine.
What are these keys, by the way? I see that they are from emails of
parabola developers like bill-auger.

I once tried to install it in Trisquel. It was really painful. It does 
not surprise me to read this.

Oh, yeah, I had forgotten about that. It also connects to internet 
without users' previous authorization, now that I remember.

I actually needed it for eclim (a package in the pcr repository), but I 
think that I am going to forget about this. I will create a bug about 
the dependency.

I would first try to remove the gnupg folder of pacman.d (should be on 
the page that bill shared; I'm not sharing the command so that you 
consult the actual info), and then pacman-key --init, pacman-key 
--populate, pacman -S --noconfirm {archlinux{,32,arm},parabola}-keyring 
. I hope it works. Remember to check your internet and all, as you did 
when you had your initial issue with keys. Good luck.

Remember, these are my 2 cents, and I don't know if it will work. What 
is more, I may not reply again to further questions :P , but I do hope 
that you get it working :) .

I used the command that bill-auger recommended:
sudo pacman-key --keyserver hkp://pool.sks-keyservers.net --refresh-keys

and afterwards I could finally use the sudo pacman -Syu command and
everything worked well.
But  bill-auger said to use this command just for now, so what will happen
in the future?
Do you recommend me to try what edgar suggests I should  do, even though
I don't have a problem as of now?

I was going to recommend Inteliji Idea (community edition) to because it is ligheter and
more resposive than eclipse but since you say you will use eclim (maybe with emacs or vi).

I rememeber there was an Inteliji idea lsp for java and emacs package
for but this stopped at old version of inteliji so sad.

well, actually I think historically Eclipse foundation started this and
then Microshaft[1] then takes the effort, from free software standpoint
nothing is too scary but from technical side of things I agree with you
they may take bad radical changes from time to time.

I mean if I like the programming languages I will take my time to fine
tune my configuration (choosing my syntax checker, completion framework,
code navigation and indexing, project management, doxygent/gtkdoc
support, documentation lookup, debugging, .... etc) and I will not use
any ready configuration such as eclim or LSP.

But if I hate it such as Java or PHP and web development in general I
will take ready configuration to turn my development environment in
emacs to IDE.

What I want to know if _all_ intel networking cards (that I think included
in iwlwifi and WiFi6 drivers) requiring blobs or not and if there is any
intel networking card supported by Linux-Libre because this chipsets are

regarding "_all_" - it would be difficult to find any hardware
manufacturer, for which all of their hardware works with free
drivers

with new laptops, the wireless radio in probably 99% of them,
will not work with free drivers - unless you do the research and
find one with a wireless device that is listed n h-node, you
should plan on replacing it - it is not terribly difficult to

Hello All,

I tried using IceCat for the first time and found out that 'settings' dialog does not open.

Got an error related to "XML Parsing Error: undefined entity".
