Subject: [Assist] Bad signature for package gnucash and/or a dependency;
 how to correct?

I tried to install this and found that there is a bad signature for the 
package or one of its dependencies.  How would I either correct the 
signature, or force the installation, assuming the package is, in fact, 
correctly built?  Maybe I should build it from sources?  The offending 
line from the output of pacman is below.

I suspect your pacman keyring is outdated. This could be the case if you
ran a partial upgrade but didn't include archlinux-keyring and
parabola-keyring. Try to update those packages first, preferably all of
your system. You can also manually update the keyring with

# pacman-key --refresh-keys

Probably not a good idea, but you could achieve it disabling signature
verification in your pacman.conf.

Hi All,

So I came across an issue where the default Emacs org-mode export to PDF
doesn't work correctly.

Specifically it complains about missing =ecrm1095.mf= font. After some
digging and thanks to #emacs, I found out this is due to the modified
package of =texlive-core= by parabola devs. IE, installing the Arch
Linux version of this package, makes Emacs org2pdf export (via latex)
work as expected.

I'm wondering what the exact reason for removing this file from the
package is? More important and general question, how can one look up the
reason for the Parabola modifications/changes in general packages?

I suspect there may be a valid reason. I'd like to then take it up with
the org-mode devs, to perhaps consider changing the default to work with
a free software compatible package.

I actually think the removal was with the best intentions but with the wrong assumptions, making us
non-LaTeX hackers a living nightmare to export a PDF in cases where using XeLaTeX is not possible.

Subject: [Assist] Radeon graphics problems after updating from Linux-libre
 4.5.4 to 4.6.1

Hello,

Ever since updating Linux-libre from 4.5.4 to 4.6.1 in June, video has
started freezing at boot. I can log in and operate the computer, but
video is frozen at finished fsck.

The computer experiencing problems has two graphics processors: ATI
Mobility Radeon HD 4250 and AMD Radeon HD 6650M. Graphics used to work
fine before.

The problem can be temporarily fixed by disabling kernel mode setting in
GRUB. However, Redshift doesn't work any more and performance is poor.

I have xf86-video-ati, xf86-video-fbdev and xf86-video-vesa installed.

Also the current Linux-libre version installed is the latest (4.6.5) but
the problem that came with 4.6.1 persists.

Any suggestions on fixing or working around this problem will be
appreciated.

The linux-libre-grsec kernel panics when I try booting it. I know the
problem started some months ago when I updated, but I don't remember
which version was the first. I'm using an X60s running libreboot.
grubtest.cfg (not grub.cfg) is what I am using to boot at the moment.

I'll ask at the org mailing list if there is a workaround so I can still
make use of the org2pdf export on parabola.

Hello I am a member of FFS among others and the reason for this email is received another email today asking I download the new add on. The add on sounds good but I know little about it. Also I have never tried the GNU/Linux OS mostly because my computer code skills are limited. I live in a small northern town in British Columbia Canada and if the install does not go well I am sure I can remove that but from what he had in an earlier email getting the GNU/Linux OS working with my Window !0 OS may require some extra steps. That email is likely long gone but even those instructions sounded like they may max my skills lol.

I have a few questions as well. Will my Windows OS still be usable at anytime when the GNU is enabled. OR does it not matter. Meaning no special skills required for the GNU OS except when coding. I would like to try it and certainly want to support it. Maybe might even get to talk with someone after 4- 5 months of fumbling around the open source. Todays email from Donald at FFS stressed the urgency and supplied the link here so I have no excuse for not trying.

Hi Dan,

I'm no authority, but generally speaking: Parabola GNU/Linux is one of
the more difficult flavors of GNU/Linux to install and configure. That's
because it is based off of Arch GNU/Linux, which is more for
do-it-yourself types. If you're new to GNU/Linux, I suggest Trisquel
GNU/Linux: https://trisquel.info which is more easy for beginners, both
Windows and Mac users alike. As you learn more, you can "graduate" up to
more challenging distros.

Hi,

Parabola GNU/Linux-libre can be used by beginners, however users are
expected to understand what they are doing. This means Parabola will
support users in understanding, but will generally require you to learn,
understand and configure the system yourself instead of making choices
for you. Parabola also is a rolling release distribution; that means it
will ship recently released software instead of waiting until it is
thoroughly tested ? you may suffer from newly introduced bugs instead of
old bugs, but you get new features more quickly. For more details on
what you are getting yourself into with Parabola instead of e.g.
Trisquel and the differences with Arch, please see the Parabola wiki [1]
and the wiki for Arch GNU/Linux [2], which is the GNU/Linux distribution
Parabola is based on. In particular, see [3].

That said, for installing and using Parabola GNU/Linux, you should
follow the installation guide [4]. You should understand each step when
installing and it is much easier if you know somebody to ask for help in
person. When choosing a boot loader, GRUB 2 should be a sane choice.
Dual booting with Windows is described on [5] for Arch and should work
for Parabola too. After installation, you should learn how to use pacman.

Hopefully you?ll eventually find that you have no need for Windows anymore.
