However, when I try to load the tp_smapi kernel module via modprobe, I get the error message ERROR: could not insert 'tp_smapi': Exec format error and dmesg states thinkpad_ec: disagrees about version of symbol module_layout The same happens analogously when I try to load the acpi_call module. I'm running the linux kernel provided by parabola with no additional modifications and both of the modules mentioned above are the versions installed via pacman. Do you have any advice on how to solve this issue? Below are some outputs that I hope are helpful. Please let me know if you need additional information. uname -a: Linux ThinkPad 4.1.5-gnu-1 #1 SMP PREEMPT Wed Aug 12 23:37:39 UYT 2015 x86_64 GNU/Linux pacman -Qi linux-libre: Name : linux-libre Version : 4.1.5_gnu-1 pacman -Qi tp_smapi: Name : tp_smapi Version : 0.41-72.parabola1.basekernel4.1 Architecture : x86_64 pacman -Qi acpi_call: Name : acpi_call Version : 1.1.0-33.parabola1.basekernel4.1 Architecture : x86_64 Martin From isacdaavid at isacdaavid.info Tue Aug 18 16:25:43 2015 From: isacdaavid at isacdaavid.info (Isaac David) Date: Tue, 18 Aug 2015 10:25:43 -0500 Subject: [Assist] Problem loading acpi_call and tp_smapi kernel module In-Reply-To: <55D32D1C.7000403@posteo.de> References: <55D32D1C.7000403@posteo.de> Message-ID: <1439911543.959.0@plebeian.isacdaavid.info> I compared the output of modprobe --dump-modversions "$path_to_module_file" | grep module_layout using different built-in modules and then the tp_smapi module, and I can confirm that there's a version mismatch between tp_smapi and the others. The module_layout version must match exactly for the kernel to accept loading a module. However this is also happening in Arch using their blobed kernel and their tp_smapi package, which suggests me that this is an upstream problem, not unique to Parabola. I switched to linux-libre-lts but the connection of both my wifi and ethernet (yes, my ethernet too) is still dropped once every minute. I can't interpret anything useful from dmesg, everything was working fine before I updated this past Sunday! I desactivated the IPv6 stack with the kernel option ipv6.disable=1 but didn't help (the messages `IPv6: ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): wlp2s0: link is not ready` and `IPv6: ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): enp1s0: link is not ready` are gone thought) --8<---------------cut here---------------start------------->8--- $ uname -a Linux abril.charola 3.14.50-gnu-1-lts #1 SMP Thu Aug 13 00:46:11 UYT 2015 i686 GNU/Linux --8<---------------cut here---------------end--------------->8--- --8<---------------cut here---------------start------------->8--- $ dmesg --human | grep -e wlp2s0 -e e1000e -e cfg80211 -e " enp1s0" -e virbr0 [ +0,006772] cfg80211: Calling CRDA to update world regulatory domain [ +0,019221] e1000e: Intel(R) PRO/1000 Network Driver - 2.3.2-k [ +0,000005] e1000e: Copyright(c) 1999 - 2013 Intel Corporation. (and I need to have some for my work) Do you have a workaround / tips to achieve the same with Parabola / another free package?
